Metro Weather Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Uji, Kyoto; President & CEO: Junichi Furumoto; hereinafter “Metro Weather”) is pleased to announce that they installed a Doppler LiDAR and started to observe wind in the transportation terminal of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan that they co-sponsor as the data provider for wind speed and direction observation.
Metro Weather engages in the research and development of Doppler LiDAR for high-precision and real-time wind observation. Eyeing an imminent drone-driven air mobility society, Metro Weather aims to contribute to the infrastructure of aerial spaces, which are impacted by wind conditions, and thereby achieving a safe and secure society on a global scale. As part of this endeavor, Metro Weather co-sponsor Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan scheduled to start on April 13, 2025, in support of the world Expo’s theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Metro Weather contribute to the world Expo by installing Doppler LiDAR at the site and providing data on wind speed/direction observation in real-time.
Service to provide
Metro Weather install a Doppler LiDAR in the transportation terminal of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan site to observe wind speed and direction in real time. (Information to provide)
①Vertical wind conditions for takeoff and landing
②Wind conditions in surrounding area
Eyeing Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, Metro Weather had been planning to install five Doppler LiDAR units in the Osaka Bay area and other Osaka urban zones, aiming for data fusion to acquire and utilize accurate data. Three Doppler LiDAR units have been installed: on the rooftops of the Asia and Pacific Trade Center (ATC) building and the Osaka Umeda Twin Towers South, also one in Yumeshima where Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan will be held. We have discussed repeatedly with the Advanced Air Mobility operators regarding data they need for making decisions on aircraft operations. And arranged to provide wind observation data from the Doppler LiDAR installed in the transportation terminal of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan .
